Campus Martius is your new spot for socially distanced live music. The Downtown Detroit Partnership Parks + Public Spaces is hosting Live Music at the Beach, a free performance series held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Friday through Sept. 19.

Now a few weeks into its programming, the lineup this Friday will feature a performance from funk and reggae group Ras Kente and Kamal Amen-Ra Trio, followed by DJ Eddie Riott. Future performances will be announced on a weekly basis, but no matter who the artists are, the evenings will almost always kick off with a musical performance followed by a DJ set.

Campus Martius boasts 400,000 pounds of sand and colorful lounge chairs, offering outdoor fun in a beach-like setting. Along with live music, there will also be an outdoor bar and casual, open-air seated service from The Fountain Detroit, the park鈥檚 shipping container restaurant. The beachside menu includes various frozen drinks, which you can enjoy in a beach bucket or a fishbowl, cocktails, and craft beer. Burgers, hot dogs, wings, chicken fingers, and waffle fries are also on the menu.

In response to听COVID-19, the DPP created a plan to bring people together in a safe setting to experience live musical performances, while enjoying a night out in the open air, says David Cowan, director of Public Spaces + Programming for DDP. 鈥淒DP is听committed to helping revive public life by supporting our city鈥檚 businesses, artists, restaurants, retailers, frontline workers, first responders, and programming partners in bringing success to important cultural gatherings.鈥

Admittance for the weekly event is first-come, first-serve, and it will be capped at 100 people. Onsite security will be monitoring the number of people and enforcing social distancing when needed. Guidelines put forth by Downtown Detroit Parks urges people to stay home if feeling sick, to wear a mask, maintain a 6-foot distance from others, and frequently lather up at the hand washing stations located throughout the park.
