Layla and Majnun
This beloved ancient Arabian story tells the tale of a pair of star-crossed lovers. When Layla is married to another man, Majnun becomes a hermit who devotes his life to writing poems about his love for her (poet Lord Byron has called it “The Romeo and Juliet of the East”).
