Events to Enjoy While the People Mover Undergoes Construction

While the Detroit People Mover is on pause, the Detroit Transportation Corporation is offering activities for all ages.

Since starting construction on the on Sept. 3, commencing an 11-week pause in service, the Detroit Transportation Corporation has been offering a series of weekly events to help keep local businesses, residents, and visitors engaged and connected, with construction estimated to be completed in late November.

During the construction period 鈥 which includes improving ride quality by replacing nine curved areas on the rail for the first time 鈥 free events, like group fitness classes, Lions tailgates, and ice cream socials, will take place at various DPM stations in Detroit until Nov. 28.

Here is what to know:

Coffee, Council, & Conversation

Do you know the what鈥檚 going on in District 6? Grab a cup of coffee and join in a conversation with Detroit City Council Member Gabriela Santiago-Romero and State Senator Stephanie Chang in a discussion about what lies ahead for the future of Detroit. 11 a.m.-noon Sept. 20 at Grand Circus Park Station.

TRAINing Tuesday

Join Coach LT, Lauryn Thomas for engaging and interactive training sessions that start with stretching before moving into strength training. There are exercises available for all fitness levels, and those who would like to participate are advised to bring a water bottle and wear something comfortable. Sept. 24, Oct. 1, 8, and 15, at Bricktown Station; Oct. 29, Nov. 5, 12, and 19 at Huntington Place Station. All classes are 5:30-7 p.m. Registration is required.

Ice Cream Social

Enjoy an Ice Cream Social where you can indulge in a variety of delicious flavors, along with giveaways and lively music that will keep the energy high. Whether you鈥檙e savoring a scoop of your favorite ice cream or dancing to great tunes, there鈥檚 fun for everyone. 5-7 p.m. Sept. 26 at Grand Circus Park Station.

Painting in the Stations

Unleash your creativity and join fellow art lovers for a painting session. No prior experience needed 鈥 just bring your imagination and enjoy a chance to relax, socialize, and paint something beautiful while listening to music. 3-5 p.m. Sept. 29, and Oct. 13 at Grand Circus Park Station; 6-8 p.m. Nov. 15 at Grand Circus Park Station. Registration is required.

Detroit Lions Tailgate

Football season is upon us! Get ready for some game-day excitement with the Detroit Lions tailgate events. These free tailgates are the perfect way to kick off the football season and enjoy giveaways, snacks, and music. 5-7 p.m. Sept. 30 at Times Square Station; 10 a.m.-noon Oct. 27, Nov. 17, and 28 at Broadway Station. Registration is required.

DPM Lunch & Learn

Want to learn more about the changes in your city? At this event, you will get to participate in discussions revolving around updates pertaining to the DPM鈥檚 rail replacement construction and offer comments. Noon-1 p.m. Oct. 2. at Times Square Station.

DPM Family Fun Day

Immerse yourself in a world of family fun creativity with an array of arts and crafts activities and mini science projects. Whether you鈥檙e looking to unleash your artistic talents or delve into fascinating hands-on experiments, there鈥檚 something for everyone to enjoy. Noon-4 p.m. Oct. 6 beginning at Grand Circus Park Station.

DPM Fashion Show

Experience the latest trends in fashion at this exciting event, featuring a pop-up market, a photo booth, music, and much more. The Fashion Show kicks off at 2 p.m., and guests can enjoy a variety of food and beverages that are available for purchase throughout the day. Noon-4 p.m. Oct. 19 at Broadway Station.

Focus group

Join an insightful focus group discussion on the current developments within the DPM system and what lies ahead. This session will delve into the latest updates, addressing both the advancements and challenges facing the DPM, and exploring the impact on daily commuters and city transit. 5:30-7p.m. Oct. 23 at The Guardian Building, 500 Griswold St., Ste. 2900, Detroit.

DPM Train and Treat

As Halloween approaches, Train and Treat is a fun event where candy, music, and exciting giveaways await. Enjoy a sweet assortment of treats with the whole family and don鈥檛 miss out on this delightful experience for all ages. 2-4 p.m. Oct. 26 at Grand Circus Park Station.

Taste of DPM

Stop at Bricktown Station to receive a wristband and unlock exclusive deals from local restaurant and business in the area. Enjoy unique offers like $3 drafts, and other exclusive deals and offers from local favorites. RAID TRAIN

Get ready for an unforgettable experience with seven hours of live, electrifying music at two DPM train stations in downtown Detroit. A transformation of the transit hubs turns them into vibrant stages where talented musicians will deliver free entertainment. 4-11 p.m. Nov. 27 at Bricktown and Broadway Stations.

Thanksgiving Day Parade

Experience the magic of the Detroit Thanksgiving Parade, a cherished tradition that lights up the city with festive cheer and excitement.
