Healing Botanicals

From the mother-daughter team of photographer Laurie Tennent and acupuncturist Sarah Tennent comes an exhibit that combines art and education. The pair examine the healing power of botanicals through Laurie’s horticultural images and Sarah’s complementary insights about their subjects’ medicinal properties. Visitors can scan QR codes to access videos of Sarah and Laurie discussing each plant. You’ll learn about botanicals such as lavender, which has the ability to soothe headaches, asthma, burns, wounds, and digestive upset, and rosemary, which stimulates circulation and cognition, and has been used in medicine for centuries. Steps toward Justice: Artis Lane’s Portraits of Rosa Parks

Artis Lane’s many multimedia portraits of civil rights icon Rosa Parks are displayed alongside one another in a new exhibition from Collected Detroit that highlights the intersection of art and social justice. Once a close friend of Parks, the 94-year-old artist has rendered her using paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, and even a bronze bust that currently adorns President Biden’s Oval Office. But the centerpiece of Steps toward Justice is a sculpture of the same name, depicting Parks’ ascension of the Montgomery courthouse steps for the bus-boycott trial in 1956. No cost. Through Oct. 23. This weekend, more than 60 food trucks from metro Detroit and beyond will line the Dequindre Cut for Harvest Fest and ������ϲ�ͼ������ Truck Rally. The event is Michigan’s largest food truck rally of the year. Participating businesses — including Wing Snob, Crispelli’s, Maui Mike, Galindo’s, Mr. Pitmaster BBQ, and A Taste of Motown — will offer fare ranging from Mediterranean, Italian, and Mexican to seafood, soul food, and gourmet desserts.
