When the iconic Como鈥檚 reopened this past May, its new owner Zack Sklar was adamant about maintaining the character of the 1961 establishment 鈥 which, after more than half a century of service, shuttered in 2017. 鈥淐omo鈥檚 is not new to Detroit, so the design needed to not be new,鈥 Sklar says.

He experimented with yesteryear materials like formica for the tables, 鈥済randma powder-blue鈥 for the upholstery, and bricks for the exterior and the fun Scrabble-inspired wall, but his intentionality helped breathe new life into them. He also made sure to keep the original Como鈥檚 black and yellow sign. 鈥淓verything from the uniforms to the pizza that you put in your mouth all has to make sense. That鈥檚 something I pride myself on.鈥

Head to Ferndale for a slice of the new with the charm of the old.
