Saint John鈥檚 Resort in Plymouth Welcomes The Wine Grotto

This new underground wine bar blends old-world charm with the vibrant energy of a modern lounge and offers a list of over 150 wines.

in Plymouth has announced the opening date of its newest drink and dining option, The Wine Grotto.

This new underground wine bar, which is set to open to the public on Sept. 21, 2023, is part of the resort鈥檚 multi-million-dollar renovation and is built on a former seminary. It features restored arches that are 鈥渞eminiscent of European wine cellars,鈥 as well as the work of local artists.

At the heart of the space is a central bar with a rotating wine list of more than 150 labels that have been curated by the resort鈥檚 sommelier team, who have been recognized as one of .

The wine options include seasonal offerings alongside monthly features that range in price from $40 to $1,500 that can be ordered by the glass or half-glass, thanks to the wine bar鈥檚 鈥渋nnovative use of the Coravin preservation system.鈥

鈥淭he Wine Grotto is a testament to our vision of creating a truly exceptional wine program that not only delights our guests but also serves a higher purpose,鈥 Eric Djordjevic, Assistant Managing Director at Saint John鈥檚 Resort said in a press release.

鈥淥ur frequently rotating wine list features top-tier wines, such as the highly coveted Giuseppe Quintarelli Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG, which is unique for Metro Detroit. The Grotto鈥檚 wine selection and Coravin preservation system redefine the wine experience, making it a top wine destination in the region.鈥

But wine isn鈥檛 the only drink on the menu. The Wine Grotto will also offer an array of seasonal and craft cocktails including Pisco Sour, Classic Hummer, and The Last Word, which is a gin-based drink in honor of the Detroit Athletic Club.

And it doesn鈥檛 stop with drinks either as the space also has a food menu that is curated by Executive Chef Terence Tarver and includes everything from snacks like Shishito Peppers and Truffle Fries to sharables including Original Detroit Sliders, Chicken 鈥淟ollipops, flatbreads, and charcuterie selections.

Plus, Pastry Chef Kaitlyn Huber has put together a delectable dessert menu filled with mouthwatering treats such as a Brachetto Wine Float, Raspberry Red Wine Velvet Cake, and an assortment of chocolates and other sweets.

Saint John鈥檚 Resort in Plymouth dates back to the late 1940s and features 200 acres of beautiful outdoor space, 118 hotel rooms, 50,000 square feet of wedding and event space, and two bars and restaurants 鈥斕齌he Wine Grotto and , which completed a renovation earlier this year.

After the current renovations are complete it will open an additional 50,000 square feet of meeting space, a new 18-hole championship golf course, a seven-hole Par 3 course, a two-acre putting course, and a new casual dining option.

And since Saint John鈥檚 resort is part of 鈥檚 鈥淗umanitarian Hotels鈥 strategy, 100% of the net profits from the resort get donated to both local and global education and humanitarian efforts.
