With a lineup that already looked impressive — Hamtramck Labor Day Festival announced a high-profile local darling will be making a homecoming appearance. None other than Jack White will perform briefly with a local garage rock group he used to be a part of, on Monday, Sept. 2.
The annual all-ages festival is still free of charge after 44 years and features two stages of musical performances. Plus, there’s a parade, a carnival, wrestling matches, food trucks, vintage vendors, a canoe race, and — in honor of the city’s Polish roots — a pierogi eating contest.
Other notable performers at the three-day celebration include Detroit rappers Sada Baby, Gmac Cash (see our ), Bruiser Wolf, and Esham. Mike Skill, former guitar player of The Romantics, will also be making an appearance. Headlining Sunday night on the south stage is Canadian rock quartet Sloan.
Do-not-miss traditions include the Hamtramck Yacht Club Canoe Races and Hamtramck Labor Day Parade — both taking place Monday, Sept. 2.
White is currently on tour in support of his newest solo album, No Name.
