The globally recognized festival, Afro Nation, is partnering with Bedrock to launch the first-ever festival in late August.
Launched in 2019, Afro Nation, in partnership with Billboard, has developed vast cultural influence and is the largest Afrobeats celebration in the world 鈥 featuring international music stars all around the globe. Afro Nation Portugal hosted over 40,000 fans and included headliners Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Megan Thee Stallion. The festival has also traveled to Puerto Rico and Ghana, and this summer it鈥檚 making its way to Detroit 鈥 one of the most significant cities in the history of Black music.
As the second Afro Nation festival to take place in the U.S., Afro Nation Detroit 2023 is expected to draw tens of thousands of attendees each day, and features performances from the biggest names in Afrobeats, R&B, Amapiano, and other African, Afro-Caribbean, and African American musical genres.
Performances at this inaugural Detroit event will be held on two stages and features sets by Burna Boy, Davido, Ari Lennox, Kizz Daniel, Diamond Platnumz, Ebony Riley, DJ Maphorisa, and many others.
Afro Nation Detroit will also offer additional events to honor the city鈥檚 worldwide musical contributions as well as its connections to present day American, African, and global Black culture and music. Those events include panel discussions, Motown Special, The Laughing Leopard Comedy Show, and a Block Party. Details about these events will be announced at a later date.
Afro Nation Detroit will take place at Bedrock鈥檚 Douglass site, which was once the first federally funded housing project for Black residents in Detroit that was once home to icons like Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson.
Afro Nation Detroit is presented by Bedrock, Event Horizon, SMADE, and Live Nation. The festival will take place August 19-20. General admission weekend tickets range from $149-$298 while VIP weekend tickets cost $249-$498. Single day general admission is $39.50-$79 and $150 for VIP.
