The Henry Ford鈥檚 The Torch Lake dates to 1873 and was built in Massachusetts by Mason Machine Works for the copper-hauling Hecla and Torch Lake Railroad Co.
It was owned by Calumet & Hecla Mining Co. in the Upper Peninsula. The Torch Lake is the only Mason Bogie locomotive to survive. 鈥淏ogie鈥 means its driving wheels are able to pivot beneath the boiler, allowing the locomotive to negotiate sharp curves.
