Based in Detroit鈥檚 Rosedale Park, Venla鈥檚 Detroit is a cottage bakery that specializes in whimsical and colorful cakes like the popular Confetti Dulce de Leche (vanilla confetti and chocolate cakes, sea salt dulce de leche filling, vanilla swiss icing and confetti mini cookies), and Matcha Pistachio (matcha vanilla bean cake with dark chocolate sea salt ganache, roasted pistachio and matcha Swiss icing). Founder Hanna Rose Nall, a graduate of Schoolcraft College鈥檚 pastry arts program, says her cake style comes from learning what she didn鈥檛 want to create. 鈥淚 spent multiple years working in custom cakeries, where you could order anything from a character cake to a 3D sculpture. It鈥檚 very difficult to produce all of these styles well,鈥 Nall says. 鈥淢uch of our inspiration comes from vintage cake design: all things campy and kitschy.鈥 Venla鈥檚 Detroit; ; .

Louisa Detroit

This pop-up was founded by New Orleans transplants Brenna Welch and Mike Moeller right before the pandemic hit. The restaurant veterans started Louisa (named after a street they lived on in the Big Easy) as a way to enjoy their creative freedom and recipe test with seasonal Michigan ingredients, creating artfully decorated cakes with fun flavors. They also do savory menus, such as a recent dinner at Babo Detroit where they served chicory salad, hush puppies, pork collar, steak frites, and more.听Louisa Detroit; .
