It has been one year since then-15-year-old Ethan Crumbley opened fire at Oxford High School, killing four classmates and injuring six other students and a teacher.
Today at 12:51 p.m., the moment the shooting began last year, Oxford Township and the entire state of Michigan will remember the victims, Madisyn Baldwin (17), Tate Myre (16), Hana St. Juliana (14), and Justin Shilling (17), with a moment of silence.

The school district is also encouraging community members to simultaneously light luminaries at their homes at 7 p.m. today to honor the lives of those lost.
You can pick up a luminary at the All for Oxford Resiliency Center, which has extended hours from 8 a.m.-9 p.m. today to provide mental health resources and emotional support, including therapy dogs from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and mindfulness activities from 4-6 p.m., for anyone in need.
Other community businesses and organizations such as Collier Lanes, Evergreens Coffee and Bakeshop, Pushna Wellness, the Legacy Center, Oxford Open-Handed, and several area churches will also host special events to help the community grieve.

In addition, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has ordered all U.S. and Michigan flags to be lowered to half-staff in honor of the victims. She encourages Michigan residents, businesses, schools, and other organizations to do the same.
Court updates
On Oct. 24, 2022, Crumbley (16) pleaded guilty to all 24 counts he was charged with including four counts of first-degree murder, seven counts of attempted murder, terrorism causing death, and 12 counts of felony firearm.
The Oakland County Prosecutor鈥檚 office has since announced they would seek life in prison without parole in the case. Crumbley is being held in an adult facility and will have his next placement hearing in January, according to .
Meanwhile, the that the Michigan Supreme Court has paused the involuntary manslaughter case against his parents, James and Jennifer Crumbley, after sending the case back to the Michigan Court of Appeals for a second look to determine if there鈥檚 鈥渟ufficient evidence鈥 to hold them responsible.
In addition to the cases against Crumbley and his parents, that lawyers for Change4Oxford 鈥 a parents鈥 group that filed a class-action lawsuit against Oxford Schools on behalf of 19 students 鈥 is seeking to include every student in the district in a federal lawsuit.
The suit, according to Metro Times, was originally filed in June does not seek any monetary damages. Instead, the group wants a federal court order that would require the district to 鈥渆nforce and update safety procedures and protocols at all of its schools.鈥
