If you thought those leftover cans of paint lining the walls of the basement or garage don鈥檛 amount to a bucket of spit, think again. The Southeastern Oakland County Resource Recover Authority (SOCRRA) has teamed with Battle Creek-based ePaint Recycling to help divert latex paint from the waste stream.
Residents of SOCRRA鈥檚 12 member communities and Bloomfield Hills can schedule a drop-off at the organization鈥檚 recycling center in Troy.
鈥淭hey take our paint and they mix it together,鈥 says SOCRRA Education Director Karen Bever. 鈥淵ou get a color, which they sell to Habitat for Humanity.鈥
The result is a product aptly named Everybody鈥檚 Paint.
鈥淚 like the title, too,鈥 Bever says. 鈥淏ecause it is everybody鈥檚 paint.鈥
Note: Only wet latex paint can be recycled. Dried paint should be removed from the can, which can be recycled, and placed in the trash.
